Movie Review – The Hunger Games
Recently Mrs. D and I went to see ‘The Hunger Games’. Although we enjoyed the movie a great deal we were sitting towards the front and to the side of the cinema which meant we couldn’t really see what was going on at times due to the ‘shakey cam’ style some of the action sequences had. That aside we still really enjoyed ourselves.
‘The Hunger Games’ tells the story of a post apocalyptic future where America is separated into 12 districts which surround the the capital city. To pay for a past rebellion, every year each district must offer up one boy and girl between the ages of 12-18 to compete in the hunger games to atone for past sins. The games themselves are a futuristic version of kill or be killed. The film is very Romanesque from the violent gladiatorial games to the sci-fi buildings and extravagant clothing of the capital elite.
Overall I thought the movie was quite good and stylised. The topics of grace and redemption in this film stirred quite a discussion afterwards. ‘The Hunger Games’ will certainly make you think, no matter what you believe.
If you’re on the fence about seeing ‘The Hunger Games’ then I highly suggest you do. But be warned, there are some dark and violent themes in this film, so it is not for the feint-hearted!

Good Friday
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” ~ John 3:16 (NIV)
Good Friday is a day of reflection for us. As Christians, it is an important day in our faith.
We believe that Jesus willingly provided his life as the ultimate sacrifice for our salvation.
We meditate on this beautiful act of love and saving grace.
Many Christians signify this day by going to church and eating fish.
It is a tradition that we have adopted from our parents, who adopted it from their parents etc.
One day, when we have children, we hope to pass this tradition down to them.
